Chapter 4 -8 : The Dark-haired Aide is Reaching Out His Hand

The Princess has fled.

That notice once again went around the palace.

...

"I thought the Princess has grown to be more mature recently, but still, it's the Princess…"

Lady Fourier took a deep sigh, as it was outrageous that a lady who represented the Kingdom was running around the palace.

Thus, she instructed the maids and the Court Ladies who had their hands free to chase after the Princess, and if anyone had found the Princess, the priority was to secure her.

“Cia is running away? I heard she has no lesson this afternoon.”

King James was in his chamber, sitting down against piles of documents on his desk, cocking his head in confusion. Chancellor Otto replied with a smile as he was carrying some reports with him.

"The Princess is rather energetic. Perhaps she is enjoying her day off by flapping her wings."

"That’s good. Kids being energetic is truly the best. But Henri's iron face wouldn't look too good."

"Certainly."

The two men involuntarily laughed when the sight of the Royal Lady-in-waiting who frantically chased after the Princess came to mind. But soon, the smile disappeared from Lord Chancellor’s face as he turned solemn.

“Your Majesty, what are you planning to do about that young man, regarding Her Highness Alicia?”

“Well, I can’t say for sure since the future is uncertain. For instance, even if I am a King, and you are a Lord Chancellor…. Oh, look at that! Cia is getting away!”

Playing dumb and shrugging his shoulder, the King raised his voice and shifted his interest towards what was outside the window. The quick-witted Chancellor Otto bowed and left the King’s chamber, as the King was immersed with the Princess, murmuring, “She looks so adorable when running...”, “Ah… but she's also adorable when hiding...”

...

"Have you found Her Highness?"

"The Princess is not here either,"

Both Annie and Martha were running around the castle looking for the Princess.  They had lost sight of Alicia, who already escaped quickly.

"What about the kitchen? Isn't the Head Chef hiding her?"

“He said Her Highness was there a while ago, eating snacks and then went somewhere else. I think he is being honest since I saw the empty teacup there.”

Annie pondered over the explanation of her comrade and folded her arms.

If she went to the Chivalric Order training ground, the Knights would have merrily reported that the Princess who hadn’t been coming to play for a long time was adorable.

If she went to the library, the Head Librarian would gladly tell them that the Princess figure who was hiding between the bookshelves was charming.

And if she went to the kitchen, she would have tea together with the Head Chef and made that bearded man’s face emanate a smile.

"Well… People in this castle are really meek to our Princess."

Turning a blind eye on their weakness, the two nodded to each other and once again ran around the castle in search of the Princess.

When the young lady with her swaying blue hair, who was running while also taking cover, was warmly welcomed in every place. And thus, the notice that had gone around finally reached this place.

“Her Highness Alicia is running away?”

"Yes, have you seen the Princess around here?”

Clovis blinked at the response from the Royal Lady-in-waiting words, who showed up in the Chancery, out of breath. Lady Fourier moved her tall figure aside, peeking inside the Chancery while explaining briefly.

“Oh, you might not know, but the Princess often plays tag with the maids to amuse herself. Though mostly, she does it to skip her lessons.”

“I heard it from Miss Annie, but isn’t this afternoon supposed to be a break time?”

“So she is not here either… since the Princess is fond of you, she will probably come here. If she does, be sure to get ahold of her.”

Without answering Clovis’ question, the Royal Lady-in-waiting gave a brief instruction and left like a storm.

The Aide who was left behind restlessly loitered around his desk for a while. Eventually, he made up his mind and ran outside, leaving the Chancery.

Alright, no one seems to be chasing me.

Alicia popped out her head from a pillar and took a look around. Just earlier, Alicia could still hear the footsteps of her pursuers, but now, it was dead silent without any sound.

After making sure the surrounding was clear, Alicia rubbed her bulging bag and smiled brightly.

The Head Chef and the Knights, who hadn’t seen her for a while, were welcoming her heartily. Thanks to that, her bag was fully packed with snacks, which were wrapped in her white lace handkerchief.

As I thought, it’s nice to play around with everyone once in a while.

Alicia had a satisfied look and hopped around cheerfully while her heart was filled with joy. Martha did say, “Let’s move our body”, and she was glad that she did as Martha said.

But, Alicia didn’t notice where she was heading, as she was walking in that gleeful manner.

She was thinking to sit down and eat her snacks if there was any bench around. However, right after she turned at the corner, she ceased her step at what laid before her sight.

Her heart thumped loudly as if it was right beside her ears.

For the first time, she knew that she had been unconsciously avoiding this place.

"The Hall of Time…”

Milky-white bronze statues with profoundly carved features were lined up in the deserted hallway. The place, which was rather grand, hadn’t changed at all compared to the image in her memory. It felt detached from the lack of decoration.

Her heart was beating quickly.

She felt suffocated, and she realized that she couldn’t breathe properly.

It was bad.

She had to leave this place at once.

Alicia tried to turn her heels, but a figure loomed at the end of the hallway.

The moment her eyes caught the sight of that man, Alicia's mind turned white.
