Chapter 4 -10 : The Dark-haired Aide is Reaching Out His Hand
With a gasp, a lump of air escaped from Alicia’s mouth, floating up higher and higher.
Again, she was in this place. Feeling close to giving up, Alicia stared down at the bottom of the murky water.
Soon, the faintly flickering orange flame dispersed to the surrounding area. The flame rose up, along with the resonating outcries from the revolution.
She had enough.
It was her limit
Hunching up her body, Alicia tightly clutched her ears.
She tried to let out a smile, driving away fear and anxiety from the bottom of her heart.
Lashing her body and mind, Alicia tried to face the future and persist through.
However, as if to scoff at her resistance, memories of her previous life drove her to the corner. Her heart turned despondent, telling her the future wouldn't change and deemed her effort useless.
How many more times would she experience this despair?
And how many more times until she could get out of this despair?
She heard the sound of heavy footsteps, and a pair of legs came into her sight. She raised her head to see Clovis Cromwell, coldly looking down on her just like that night.
However, unlike what she felt every night, Alicia’s heart strangely wasn’t taken over by fear. Instead, what pricked her chest was “pain.”
”Clovis… Why did you kill me?”
The man silently stared back at the Princess without moving an inch of his beautiful face in response to Alicia’s question. Alicia could see her miserable look being reflected on his violet eyes, which were staring at her apathetically.
“Are you still resentful enough to kill me?”
...
Gently closing the door behind him, Clovis quietly paced across the room to prevent his currently sleeping Master from being awakened. It was his first time entering Alicia’s chamber, but he could approach her bed-chamber without any difficulty as it was hard to miss the huge canopy bed.
Clovis came approaching slowly so as not to create any noise. His Master figure came into plain sight as he stood beside the bed-chamber, his chest hurt like it was being squeezed.
Her face was very pale, that he could even tell in the darkness. The thought of her staying in a deep sleep for good came to his mind, though he knew she was supposed to lay down without moving an inch.
“Princess Alicia…..”
She was a peculiar Princess.
Though she was no doubt a high born, she wasn’t haughty in the least. Her innocence and affability sometimes made him forget the fact that she was the Princess of this Kingdom.
Even until now, Clovis found it unfathomable sometimes, that he was still placed as Alicia’s Aide. Because the first time he saw Alicia, the indistinct feeling that he and Alicia lived in a totally different world filled Clovis’s heart.
She was a blue rose bloomed in Heilland, doused with the love of her father, the King.
A beautiful Princess who captivated everyone in the Kingdom with her charm.
The complete opposite of Clovis.
Zack Graham was a rebel and a sinner who sought upon the Queen’s death. Thought of as ominous, all of his portraits were already burned. However, it was well-known that he passed down his jet-black hair and peculiar violet eyes to those of Graham’s household.
Even his blood relatives ostracized Clovis, who inherited most features of that sinner. Especially his mother, who hated the sight of Clovis, who reminded everyone of the disgrace of the family. Thus she ordered the servants to keep him away.
That was why he sought for his own weapon by devoting himself to study and do swordsmanship. Fortunately, Clovis was more skillful than anyone else, and due to his outstanding efforts, he rose up as the top student when he graduated from the Royal Academy.
Despite that, his parents and relatives didn’t change their views about Clovis. The more outstanding and talented Clovis was, the more they bound him to his root and undermine him.
He had no choice but to give up.
He couldn’t escape from the Zack Graham curse for his lifetime.
“I command you as a Princess. Clovis, you shall serve beside me.”
Therefore, when the Princess took his hand, Clovis doubted himself as he might be in a delusion.
The bright blue eyes resembled the sky on a clear day, staring at Clovis without any hesitation. Her eyes held a strong light, and her figure who stood before him, taking his hand as if to guide Clovis to the path, was so divine and beautiful.
Before he knew it, Clovis already knelt down. Clovis felt his heart getting warm from utmost joy, as he quivered from one thing that he had decided upon his back.
I was born for the sake of serving this young lady.
Thus he must serve Princess Alicia in return to his all.
Princess Alicia, that day, I was saved by you.
Clovis took a seat, watching over the youthful face of the Princess turning dreadful from her nightmare. Even if he wished to relieve her suffering, being at her side like this made him realize how useless he was.
The night he was suffering from both fever and nightmare, no one cared for him. When he was crying alone all night, there was no one comforting him by his side.
They were normal occurrences to him, that he intended to dwell over it no more. However, looking at the young lady who was suffering right in front of him, he wished he had learned how to soothe someone from nightmares.
Then, he saw the Princess's hand moved as if asking for something. After pondering for a while, Clovis gently wrapped her petite hand in his.
It didn't matter if Alicia took on Clovis' hand on a whim.
The Princess who shined brightly had reached out her hand to Clovis, who was wandering all alone in the darkness with no way out. If he couldn't save her, what kind of Aide was he?
Please don't suffer, Princess Alicia. My precious one.
Clovis desperately recited his prayer for Alicia, without realizing he had sent strength through from his hand.
